Twilight Teez on the Twilight DVD The Blog, The Store, Twilight Books, Twilight Merchandise, Twilight Movie
|
Well, geez, how long has it been since I last posted? It’s been particularly hard for me to write lately because, frankly, there’s not much to say right now. We’re on board with a lot of things, but we can’t really say much here because…let’s face it, I’ve said a lot of things that haven’t happened, yet. I’ve said we’ve got shirts from The Host coming up soon, but we haven’t put them up, yet. I’ve said we’ve got Dave Barry shirts coming up soon, but we haven’t put them up, yet. It’s hard to keep saying we’ve got a lot of things coming up and then have to delay the execution of those things because of small problems that keep cropping up.
The shirts for The Host are our most complex yet, which have caused a number of small issues to crop up each time we’ve sent them to manufacturing. I think it’s safe to say that we have solved the problems we have faced and are ready to launch two of our three designs that we’ve had approved. The third is not far behind.
Dave Barry is soon to launch, too. Again, if you don’t know who Dave Barry is by now, shame on you. I have been touting him for years. Go visit his web site at www.davebarry.com to learn more about him.
Another reason I haven’t posted much lately is because, darn it, it takes energy to write. I’ve been focusing a lot of my work on getting us ready for AccioCon in the next couple of weeks. We’re looking forward to it a lot, and we hope that many of you will give it a go. We also have our other events planned, TwiCon of course, coming up in July, as well as the Summer School In Forks event in June. Check them out on our Events page.
I am sorry for not writing sooner. I know, I’ve been meaning to, and I know that many of you have asked why no updates. I don’t really have much of an excuse except for the fact that (a) there really hasn’t been much news to report and (b) I’m lazy as heck. I am also sorry for not checking up on your comments to get them approved if, for whatever reason, they end up in the moderation queue. Forgive me for not keeping up on that.
But there is one small minute note I’d like to point out. Twilight Teez appears on the Twilight DVD Special Features disc. My wife and myself are in the Comic-Con video. If you have the DVD, you can see us almost every time they show the audience. Let me tell you, it’s very bizarre to see yourself on such a mass distribution product. It’s cool, but bizarre.

We’re Still Here! The Blog, The Store
|
Yeah, it’s been a while since my last post. Things have been a bit crazy here. I don’t have much time to add too many details, but here’s rundown of the things that are keeping us busy.
The Host – We’re working hard on getting the final bits of our designs for our Host shirts. We have the designs for the fronts of the shirts pretty much figured out. It’s the backs that are giving us some trouble. Getting them to look just right is taking some trial and error, but we’re getting really close.
Phoenix ComiCon – We had a vendor booth at the Phoenix Cactus ComiCon this past January, and it was a last minute deal for us. Rushing to get everything ready in only a couple of weeks had us running around vampires with our heads bitten off. But it was well worth it, and I’ll be posting photos of the event very soon.
AccioCon – Fresh off our stint at the Phoenix ComiCon is our upcoming gig at AccioCon in Orlando. it’s only seven weeks away, and there’s a lot of preparation we need to do for this one. We’re way excited about it, though, and can’t wait for the event to start.
Dave Barry – We are still in the midst of planning our new Dave Barry line of shirts. We’ve got four approved designs now, and are working on about 10 more.
Twilight Teez Exclusive Designs – We are starting to develop our own design team which will pump out new designs that are exclusive to Twilight Teez and are not associated with any book series. I’m particularly excited about this new direction we’re taking as we will be limitless to what we can create. We’re working on fantasy and sci-fi themed designs which I believe will really help establish the Twilight Teez style. More on this later.

No Sacrifice Is Too Great For Science Dave Barry, Not Twilight Related, The Blog
|
It’s funny how meeting one of your heroes can cause you to have the mental capacity of a turnip.
No, really, I am nearly 40 years old and I still feel like a fanboy teenager when I meet famous people I admire. This held true when my wife and I recently went to meet Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson at a book signing. In case you’re not aware, Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson are both authors, and I had about 6 bazillion books for them to sign (some of the books were even theirs). They were both at The Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale, AZ promoting their new book, Science Fair .
The presentation was a lot of fun to watch, and they gave us (the audience) a brief history of how the story came about. I was particularly interested in the discussion of the important scientific experiments that happened in real life that were pertinent to the book, including the experiment that levitated a real, live frog. They then proceeded to demonstrate, in real life, one of the experiments that happens in the book; the famous Mentos/Diet Coke Theorem of Showering Things With Sticky Soda.
This was particularly amusing, especially when Ridley became the unwitting subject of a soda shower. Earlier that day, Dave and Ridley were demonstrating this exact theorem at a middle school gymnasium, which had a very tall ceiling. They dropped 5 Mentos into the Diet Coke, and produced a fountain high enough to touch the ceiling. Because of this, and the fact that the ceiling in the Poisoned Pen was only about 7.5 to 8 feet high, they decided to scale back the number of Mentos to just 2.
The fountain they produced was impressive…and managed to spray the ceiling anyway. The containment field that they set up (a Glad garbage bag) was breeched, and the table, floor, and the first row of attendees were splattered with Diet Coke. This would probably have been very troubling to the owner of the store, had she been there. I do hope that these two guys are invited back again next year when they release their next Peter and the Starcatchers book.
The photo below is my wife and I with Dave Barry.
Key Scientific Quote Of The Evening: "I’m still dripping!" -Ridley Pearson
The evening was a lot of fun, and I’m very glad that my wife and I made the journey to meet these two very funny guys. It was a great date for my wife and I, and we got a ton of new books to read to boot. I highly recommend checking out their work. Dave is famous for his humor and Ridley is famous for his particularly inventive ways of killing characters in his adult books. How ironic it is that both of these guys happen to write really good fiction for young adults. I highly recommend their Peter and the Starcatchers series as well as Ridley’s Steel Trapp: The Challenge
book and The Kingdom Keepers
series.
Incidentally, and yes I have to plug this, the shirt I’m wearing will be available soon on our web site in the coming week or so. It is part of our new line of officially licensed Dave Barry t-shirts. I’m very excited to be able to work with Dave on this endeavor. And I’m pretty certain it will not result in anyone being splashed with Diet Coke.

Comic-Con Update Geek, Stephenie Meyer, The Blog, Twilight Movie
|
Today was day one at Comic-Con. Sharon and I were part of the 6 billion-strong crowd of squealing Twilight fans that packed the room. I am happy to say that I was not, in fact, squealing like a little girl. Guys do not do that.
I am extremely tired at this point, and am not able to think coherently enough to post a truly witty and insightful recap of the days events. I will say this, though; it was amazing to be able to see the cast and crew of the movie. They also played an extended version of the fight sequence between James and Edward in the dance studio. Let me tell you, it was AWESOME! This movie is going to ROCK!
I video taped the panel discussion and question and answer session, but I don’t have a way of transferring the video to my ‘puter and subsequently to YouTube for viewing. And because I was busy video taping, and my wife was busy swooning and being a regular fanchick during that time, we don’t have any still photos. But never fear! We have photos of us in and around the rest of Comic-Con. To your incredible relief, I will post them here.

Here’s Sharon standing in front of a Comic-Con International sign. The box contains shirts and two bracelets which were given as gifts to the cast and crew of the movie.

The first group of folks that we saw inside the exhibition hall were these guys. They were advertising the new Ghostbusters game. Who you gonna call?

Believe it or not, the stormtrooper is a woman. But what was truly surprising was that Boba Fett was a Wookie!

If you’re a gamer, then you no doubt know who these guys are. If you’re not a gamer, or you are one and don’t know about Pure Pwnage (pronounced ownage), then you are such a noob. Let me tell you, there is nothing cooler than being called a noob by Teh Pwnerer. FPS Doug is my favorite character, though.
That’s it, so far. We’re meeting with Hot Topic and the merchandising manager for Summit Entertainment tomorrow. We don’t know exactly what the outcome will be, but we are looking forward to the meeting very much. We’ll post updates as we get them.

These Are The Times That Try Men’s Souls The Blog
|
I want to apologize for the site flakiness for today (June 15). We’re investigating the problem now, but at this time we do not have an idea as to what the cause is and what the solution will be. We ask for your continued patience. Thanks.
Happy Father’s Day to me, right? So much for my scheduled sleep-in.

Update – It appears that things may be functioning better, today. Optimizing the database appears to have helped, but I’m not 100% convinced that that was the problem. I’m still researching.
If you are a hacker, and you are trying to hack into my storefront, and you also happen to be reading this blog, I give you this one warning: I will find you, and I will kill you.

Technical Problems Not Twilight Related, The Blog, The Store
|
Well, isn’t this just another wonderful screw up? Here’s a brief explanation of what I believe to have happened.
I found what I had hoped to be a nifty plug-in for the WordPress software that runs this blog. The plug-in was designed to allow you, the reader, to know if I was online on my Yahoo IM client.  it appears that this software caused an unbelievable strain on the server CPU that our web site runs on. This affected every single site we have, including this blog, or forums, and our main site. That is why you couldn’t access our site for almost the entire day. It took that long to figure out, through the help of a couple of very cool technicians at our host provider, to figure out what was happening. Once I narrowed things down, I was able to repair the damage.
I want to thank everyone for your patience. We are still learning, and it is unfortunate that my learning has to take place on our live site.  Some day I’ll get a practice server to play with. Until then, we may have to stumble through more of these little blunders.
But I hope not.

One Million Hits Not Twilight Related, The Blog
|
I’m not sure how I missed it, but sometime within the last few hours, we had our official one millionth visitor. I wish I had paid more attention so I could have gone through our web stats and figured out who it was, but I was in the middle of teaching at the local college. Anyway, this is a bit of a cool thing for us. I’ve been operating my own personal web site over at SchadeBlog.com for the last several years, and I haven’t even begun to see that kind of traffic. Hooray for us! Here’s to our second million in the next six months!
